Royal Pain: The wait is finally over!

I adored Princess Diana when I was younger. I thought her bright blue eyes were beautiful and her smile so soft. I remember practicing her famous wave in the mirror and pretending I was a princess. I think this is when my fascination with the royal family began.

I don't know about anyone else, but I became so impatient waiting for this baby to be born lol. I felt like I had been waiting for years! I became even more impatient after hearing that Kim and Kanye's baby girl was delivered. I started wondering what was taking this baby SO LONG! lol

Kate was chosen as one of the 10 best dressed pregnant celebrities

I got notified late Sunday night/ early monday morning (thank you CNN app)  that Kate was being rushed to the hospital and was preparing for delivery. This is kind of hard to admit but, I could hardly sleep after that... I was so excited! I was so happy when it was announced that she had a smooth delivery and had a healthy baby boy !

I was shocked to see how gorgeous Kate looked stepping out of the hospital earlier today. Her skin was glowing! She looked like she had been at the spa all day! lol.

I'm so happy for the first time parents and I wish that they have many precious memories with their baby boy!

Meagan Good: Too hot???

I personally have a low tolerance for any type of awards shows. To me they are just too long, drawn out and  i'll only usually watch if there's someone I really want to see. So being that last night the BET Awards were on I skipped it, but mostly because my mom was controlling the remote.

Throughout the day Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter updated me on what I missed...the fashions, the petty dramas, the winners, the performances and etc. One topic that stood out to me the most was on Meagan Good's wardrobe choice for the awards. It seemed the Christian community was a buzz with varying opinions on her style choice for the night.

Now when I first saw the dress, it honestly didn't come as a shock. From my recollection, Ms. Good usually wears dresses of similar styles. However, as I fully took in the dress and peoples comments, my outlook began to change. Growing up an Adventist, I am no stranger to the "Image of Modesty" the church promotes and have also fallen "victim" (and I use the word "victim" with heavy sarcasm) to the criticism or comments from the elder church folk about things as simple as wearing a sleeveless dress. To me, modesty is more than about "just covering up." It encompasses being comfortable and secure as a christian in what we wear, but of course within reason. One of the no-so-easy concepts I am still learning to swallow as a Christian is the fact that I  am not here to serve and please myself but rather I'm here for God's glory and to be an example.

So, to my fellow fashionistas in the church or where ever you are, what are your thoughts on the topic of modesty in today's society?

Met Gala 2013: Punk'd

I look forward to the met gala every year. It seems like its the one night the stars get to play dress up and wear whatever they want! They go all out from their dresses/costumes, hair, accessories, jewelry, and even nails. It's the one red carpet that their smiles seem genuine.
My favorite dress of the night goes to Sarah Jessica Parker, who stayed true to her Carrie Bradshaw roots! Her dress is from Giles deacon and she rocked that beautiful headdress by Philip Treacy. I'm probably being bias because she can do no wrong in my book...but I don't care, she's fabulous! Her outfit gave me so much life!

My second favorite would have to go Anne Hathaway wearing Valentino. She's kept a low profile after winning best supporting actress in March, so this was the perfect time for her debut her new 'do! She's such a Betty with blonde hair!

Nina Dobrev was a pleasant surprise. I dont usually pay much attention to her on the red carpet but I think I might have to, she's stunning!

Nicole Richie never disappoints. I love everything about this look.

Here are a few more looks that caught my eye.

Gwen Stefani and her husband, Gavin Rossdale, are so cute together! Best looking couple would have to go to them for sure.

There were a few looks that did disappoint me.
I'm a big fan of both pair of sisters but I'm just not feeling them this year. They didn't really wow me like they usually do.

Rihanna for River Island

In recent fashion news, Rihanna has just unveiled the collection she designed for UK brand, River Island. The collection of about 55 pieces ranges from tops to jeans, hats and even shoes too.  Rihanna is often highlighted for her unique fashion choices, so it was very interesting to see what she would come up with when designing a line of her own.

The line was previewed during London Fashion Week 2013 and was officially released to the public this past Monday. I was really anxious to see what Rihanna had created and couldn't wait until then, so I checked out the show on River Island's Youtube.

Once monday hit, I immediately went online to see what else was there and also what the prices were saying lol. The clothes were all up, and the prices seem to be mostly above average River Island prices ranging from $45-$350.

Some of the items are basics, but still nice at the same time. In general the items are cute, chic and seem to be selling out fast! All I'm saying is I'd rock them lol. Here are some pieces that stood out to me.

It's super exciting to see Rihanna doing big things. River Island even hints that she may do more for them in the future so we'll definitely keep her on our radar.

Look of the Day: Oscars Edition

I love to play dress up. Any event that involves dressing up, count me in. Other than watching the Oscars, my favorite part of this event is the red carpet. I love to see the extraordinary gowns and the bodies wearing them ever so elegantly. My favorite all-time Oscar dress would have to be the backless midnight- blue Guy Laroche gown, Hilary Swank wore in 2005. I adored that dress and when I got my hands on a copy- cat version, I purchased it.
Hilary Swank, on the left in my all time favorite dress! I remember that night so vividly when she won an Oscar for one of my favorite movies, Million Dollar Baby. It was amazing! In my Sophomore year of University, I found the dress on the right, bought it and wore it to my school's banquet. That dress remains to be one of my favorite buy!

This year was very promising on the red carpet. Here are my top 4 looks on the red carpet of the Oscars 2013!
"Halle Berry, Halle Berry." I am so in love with this dress. Halle is back! For a while,  the mother role has really taken over and her outfits now consist of being comfortable. However, on the red carpet she showed us something different. I love that she brought back her signature hairstyle. One thing is for sure, this gal never ages!
Naomi Watts is killin' them with this dress. I love the top part of this dress. A lot of  sequins were rocked on the red carpet this year! But this show stopping dress, bedazzled and all has to be one of my fav!

I have fallen in love with Jessica Chastain since "The Help." This dress fits her so elegantly and the "Old Hollywood" hairstyle is absolutely gorgeous!
I love this white Dior dress. Charlize Theron was featured in one of my favorite J'adore Dior's commercial and I'm always eager to see what she wears. Her outfits are always phenomenal! I must say this  look definitely reminded me of Anne Hathaway's dress at the Golden Globes not too long ago. But, they both get "kudos" for pulling off a great look!

Prabal Gurung for TARGET

Last week Jode-Leigh and I checked out the Prabal Gurung collection for Target. Lately, they have been featuring more designers as in-store collections to help make high fashion available to the everyday consumer. Prabal Gurung is a Nepalese American fashion designer that launched his collection in 2009 at New York Fashion Week. With designs being worn by First Lady Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge he is definitely a designer that should not be ignored.

The pieces were awesome, but as with any "lower end" collection done by a high fashion designer quality can become an issue. Problems with finding the right fit and preserving the quality of the garment can come up. Take for example, the shoes. They were super cute, but the ankle strap didn't tighten quite well enough. Another example would be the quality of the print or pattern. Prabal Gurung is noted for his beautiful patterns and intricate designs on his garments. This can be seen in his line for Target, but the fabric of course wasn't necessarily the greatest. Still, the garments were beautiful and they're perfect for the Spring!

Though this was so cute and creative as the tag!
