Versace! Versace! Versace!

M.I.A. is just so cool. She's so smart! Her music videos are always well thought out and always something to look forward to.

So, when I heard that M.I.A. was thinking about doing a collection, I knew immediately it was going to be dope. Two weeks ago I was so excited to hear that her collection had finally hit stores!

I love the thought process behind this collection. The way M.I.A. came up with this collection is so clever. She turned "bootleg street wear" to a full blown collection. When interviewed by WWD, M.I.A said, "When I was contacted by Versace, it seemed a great idea to invert the circle. Versace's designs have always been copied, now it's Versace that copies the copies, so those that copy must copy the copies. So this will continue."

That's a dope concept!

Solange Live in Toronto

tumblr_mpy42kF3bq1qapzm0o1_500Going to school in Huntsville can have its perks, but it definitely has its downfalls. I’m always missing my favorite singers when they come into town! Every time a favorite singer of mine visits Toronto, I’m in Huntsville at school. One of the things on my to do list for this summer was to make up for lost time. So, when I heard Solange was coming to Toronto, I had to purchase a ticket to her concert, right then and there.I have been a true fan of Solange since 2003 and never turned back. Not only is she my birthday buddy, since our birthdays are three days apart, but I genuinely love her music, the way she embodies life and of course her eccentric style.
tumblr_mpzkdkOLl41rzrnyqo1_500 I truly had a blast on Saturday night. Solange entered on stage looking dope with her long braids and a tribal print suit.To start kthe  concert off, she did a rendition of “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” dedicated to Trayvon Martin and the verdict of “not guilty” that surfaced tumblr_mpzkdkOLl41rzrnyqo2_250tumblr_mpzkdkOLl41rzrnyqo3_250around that time. Then, she went on to one of my faves, “T.O.N.Y.“ She sang three of my faves in between such as: ‘”Losing You,” “Lovers In A Parking Lot,” and “Sandcastle Disco.” At the end, she ‘punked’ me because she said, “goodnight” but clearly forgot to sing my absolute fave, “I Decided.” She then came back on stage and ended the concert right! Saturday night will be a night to remember. I’m super stocked that I finally got to see Solange live in concert!

Meagan Good: Too hot???

I personally have a low tolerance for any type of awards shows. To me they are just too long, drawn out and  i'll only usually watch if there's someone I really want to see. So being that last night the BET Awards were on I skipped it, but mostly because my mom was controlling the remote.

Throughout the day Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter updated me on what I missed...the fashions, the petty dramas, the winners, the performances and etc. One topic that stood out to me the most was on Meagan Good's wardrobe choice for the awards. It seemed the Christian community was a buzz with varying opinions on her style choice for the night.

Now when I first saw the dress, it honestly didn't come as a shock. From my recollection, Ms. Good usually wears dresses of similar styles. However, as I fully took in the dress and peoples comments, my outlook began to change. Growing up an Adventist, I am no stranger to the "Image of Modesty" the church promotes and have also fallen "victim" (and I use the word "victim" with heavy sarcasm) to the criticism or comments from the elder church folk about things as simple as wearing a sleeveless dress. To me, modesty is more than about "just covering up." It encompasses being comfortable and secure as a christian in what we wear, but of course within reason. One of the no-so-easy concepts I am still learning to swallow as a Christian is the fact that I  am not here to serve and please myself but rather I'm here for God's glory and to be an example.

So, to my fellow fashionistas in the church or where ever you are, what are your thoughts on the topic of modesty in today's society?

I thought about you all day, yeah we have the same face I fell asleep so confused, parts of me remind me of you

I've been listening to Sky Ferreira's latest EP- Ghost non-stop since it came out in October. Her first single released from the record, "Everything is Embarrassing" would have to be one of my favorite songs ever! The song is about trying to make love work, something we all can relate to. Even though that description makes the song seem like it might be sad and frustrating, it's the total opposite. With the 80's backbeat and Sky's moody but dreamlike voice, It's great for every mood I'm in. Seriously.

Style & Music

Solange is back at it again!
It's been a minute since Solange has dropped an album and I almost thought she wouldn't do it again. But, just as I was about to give up on that dream, two weeks ago, her amazing video to "Losing You" came out. I couldn't be more happier! Not only is the song to be reckoned with, but the execution of the video as well as the awesome style options portrayed in this video is off the chain. Set in Cape Town, South Africa, this video captures the fashionable Congolese Le Sape Society (or Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance), as well as some of Solange's fabulous, fashionable friends. I love that although the song was purely about the realization of one losing another, she didn't take the route of doing a depressing story line but embodied creativity and style.
 Koodos Solange!
Can't wait for "True," Solange's seven-song EP to be out on Nov.27!

Here are some of my October Style Favs of Solange:

No Doubt They're Here to Stay!

They're baaaaaaaack!!! Yes people, No Doubt has not released an album since 2001 and now they are back! Ever since I was  kid and I heard their song "Hey Baby" I have taken a liking to No Doubt and was hooked since then. There was something so unique about their vibe and their ska/rock/pop sound that drew me in. During their 11 year hiatus I'm sure we all enjoyed the solo ventures of their lead singer Gwen Stefani but admittedly, it's so great to see them all back in action. No Doubt are great entertainers and exceptional song writers and I am excited and can't wait to hear more from their comeback album "Push and Shove", set to release on September 25, 2012. In the mean time check out their entire music catalog and enjoy this video for their first single "Settle Down."

Electra Heart ♥

I've been a fan of Marina and the Diamonds since 2009.
'I am not a Robot' was the first song I heard my by her and it's still one of my favorite songs to
play and dance around too.
I finally got a chance to listen to her new album 'Electra Heart' thanx to spotify.
And I think I'm completely
OBSESSED with her.
I'm a sucker for big hair, big eyelashes, bright eyes, and glitter!
I love her new look, it's so old Hollywood. I didn't realize how much I love the style from the 1960's
until I watched "My week with Marilyn" some weeks ago.
I'll try and do a style on that era in a few days, until then check out Electra Heart

I love her big hair and lashes! And is it okay if I walk around with a heart on my face?
I'm seriously considering it! lol

Haim on repeat ♫

Growing up I really thought my sisters & I  would form a band
and be like the next Destiny's Child.
There's was only one problem,
I couldn't sing :(

Plus we couldn't be in the same room for long periods of time
without fighting! lol
I guess I'm going to have live
my dreams vicariously through the Haim sisters!
I'm so happy that asos had posted a video of Haim on their summer playlist.
I'm a 90's baby so I love anything that has the fun of the 80's mixed with the soul of the 90's!
If that makes any sense to you,  I know you'll love their latest single 'Forever'.

I also recommend listening to  'Go slow'

I love the vibe of this band can't wait to hear more from them!
Check out their ep at haimtheband.com

What I'm Listening to

Hey people! I'm back! So as of late I have had Foster The People on REPEAT! Yea I'm kinda late but I actually made the effort to sit down a listen to their whole album Torches and I am in love! In case you're wondering they're the guys that sing that catchy tune Pumped Up Kicks. This is their first album and I have to say I appreciate their variation and consistency; they kinda have a dance-rock-indie pop vibe going on that I seriously dig lol. Did I mention I freaking love this album?! But, if I had to pick, my fav tracks from them would have to be Helena Beat, Pumped Up Kicks, Don't Stop and Houdini. I suggest that you check out the rest of their music and videos; these guys have a great sense of humor and are an awesome band.
P.S. and if you are in the Toronto area they will be here June 19th with Kimbra and Tokyo Police Club! Oh, and if you watch the video down below Don't Stop, you'll see it features a very, very interesting person in it lol enjoy :)

Style and Music

So I'm here to admit that I am a Gaga fan. There...I said it and I am not ashamed lol. I love Lady Gaga for her outrageous choices in clothing, her sick beats and her lyrics...whoa...who else can write like her? Yea...didn't think so. Oh and let's not forget her performances! People still talk about them years after the fact. For me, Lady Gaga does all the crazy things I would have wanted to do with my life lol. From day one she has caught the attention of people everywhere with her catchy music and unique fashion choices. Whether it's tea with the Queen or "simply" walking through the airport sans pants, Lady Gaga is all about shock value. Now don't get me wrong, these days she still is in the business to confuse and bewilder with her choice in attire, but lately I have seemed to notice a more fashionable and wearable Gaga. It seems like she is adopting a classier look and I am very pleased she looks AMAZING!!!
