OOTD: Tuesday Black Affair

I've decided to play dress up yesterday. I enjoyed a lovely weekend with my girlfriends. It was nice to relax before embarking on the notorious week ahead of me. Is it Friday yet?  

Well, to get these shots was hard work. I’m no photographer! I couldn’t find my tripod so I had to use my piano and angle the camera right, put the timer on and then run into position for the picture. I laughed at myself at times, but it was all fun!

Day to Night

I believe that your work attire should always look professional. But, if you want to look relaxed in the evening with friends or look casual for a date, here is an idea to switch your outfit from day to night.

Day- Wear a professional button up  with skinny’s that could be dressed up or dressed down… pants that are versatile. Finish the outfit off with “killer” heels.

Night- Add a vest or a leather jacket. Add loafers to the outfit and you’re ready to paint the town red.

Miley Cyrus Inspired OOTD

I decided to play dress up yesterday! My awesome friend who is killing the game with his videos came over from Atlanta, so I had to get him to do a video for me. We did a OOTD concept and he did an amazing job! He taught me a few things, so for upcoming videos I think I’ll be straight… well, let’s hope!

Simple, not so LBD (Little Black Dress)

Hey peeps! So, I find that I enjoy wearing dresses in the summer...a lot. But who doesn't? They're essentially complete outfits with the option to accessorize, soooo convenient lol. With that being said, I found this dress while thrifting and it didn't feel right leaving it in the store. I so fell in love it's perfect fit and little train at the back. I love that it's an sightly edgier take on the classic Little Black Dress (LBD). 

Oh also, when bored...in the house...all summer, why not make something! Been dying to try my hand at making a DIY Flower crown, so pictured is my first attempt.

 Even though summer is coming to an end and school is right around the corner, I feel like i'm finally on summer break. I was given a few vacation days from work and decided to dedicate myself, as much as possible that is, to the blog. I'm so grateful for Rachael and Jode-Leigh for holding done the blog while I was ghost! :) 

   So I think my style is changing. If I've had to describe my style in one word, I guess it would've been 'loud'. Matching was a 'no no' for me, I thought the more color the better! But these days I get a headache when I see too many colors or patterns put together. I think because I spent my summer in an office, where I couldn't wear anything too loud, kinda helped/forced me to change things up a bit. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I love matching! (my mom is very happy about this lol) I have no problem sticking to just one color for an entire outfit.

    Now don't get me wrong, even though I'm starting to shy away from anything too 'loud', I still enjoy seeing other people dress in a million colors with a million patterns! There are days when I want that extra pop of color or pattern, they just see fewer days than most now.

I’ve always been really into fashion but most days, as a new mom, looking my best just isn’t even close to being number one on my to do list. That was until someone said, “Wow, you look like a mom!” Now normally I wouldn’t take offense to such a statement, but the person's tone suggested that it was NOT meant as a compliment. I took a quick look in the mirror and realized that I looked the way I felt… worn out! I needed help. I didn’t want to look too conservative (since I am only 26) but I wasn’t sure how to transition my wardrobe. Time was also a concern, so, I immediately googled “fashionable moms". There are 3 things I’ve learned that have seriously helped and compliment my new lifestyle (i.e. working single mom that never sleeps).
1. A little makeup goes a long way! My sisters have been telling me this for years and I’ve finally realized they’re right. Since I don’t have a lot of “me” time, I developed a quick morning facial routine, utilizing a neutral makeup palette. If I need a pop of color, my lips do the talking :D.

2. Braids, messy buns/ponytails, and yes… wigs… have continually come to my rescue. I have found that staying simple and functional are not only my best options but they’re also timelessly chic.

3. Planning an outfit in advance does wonders... who knew?! A great pair of jeans and an awesome T-shirt is what I’m the most comfortable in these days but I find that no matter what I wear, it HAS to be comfortable!

A Woman of Versatility

 

I am a woman of versatility. I like to switch it up. For months, I have been thinking about cutting off my hair and starting over. But, I know I would enjoy it for a couple of months and then holler for my hair to grow back. Also, I wasn’t sure how the short haircut would fit me. I’ve been told I could probably do anything except going short. But, I wanted to see for myself. I wanted to try the short haircut, but still be able to rock my length. So, I looked up a few short hairstyles and fell in love with the pixie cut. I went to my hairdresser and got a customized wig, so I could switch it up whenever I wanted to. I absolutely love the cut and this has inspired me to eventually get the big chop!

Oui! Oui!

As I scrolled through my Tumblr dashboard yesterday, the reoccurring pictures of Rihanna had me wanting more. From her Farrah Fawcett inspired hair to her white Chanel suit, I was loving it! Then, I saw her outfit of the night and I was amazed! I love the way this jumper is hugging her body, showcasing her “Bajan” shape. Every time I think she outdid her self, she keeps surprising me with more and more!

OOTD: Graduation Weekend!

I am officially an alumnus of Oakwood University. Yay! I've graduated! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Pre-Law, a concentration in Political Science and a minor in Business Management.

I no longer will be living with my two Purple Lipstick besties, Rachael and Kalila. But, don't worry, Purple Lipstick will still be functioning! We ain't going nowhere! But, you will gain a deeper understanding of us individually as we embark on different paths. I will surely miss my girls and will see them from time to time. So, look out for collaborative posts of the Purple Lipstick gang when we reunite again!

Graduation went by so fast. It was one of the most important and greatest day of my life. Four years of toil and labor has finally ended. Well, although I wore a robe for the entire graduation weekend, I still "glammed" up underneath. After all, it is my graduation!
