Day to Night

I believe that your work attire should always look professional. But, if you want to look relaxed in the evening with friends or look casual for a date, here is an idea to switch your outfit from day to night.

Day- Wear a professional button up  with skinny’s that could be dressed up or dressed down… pants that are versatile. Finish the outfit off with “killer” heels.

                                                            Pants: H&M
                                                                       Heels: Zara

Night- Add a vest or a leather jacket. Add loafers to the outfit and you’re ready to paint the town red.

Father’s Day Style Edition

Happy belated Father’s day to all the daddy's who don’t make excuses, but take special care of their families, especially in a stylish way! Here’s to the top 5 stylish fathers from the entertainment world!

5. Jay-Z- I can’t believe I am at the point of my existence where I am acknowledging Jay-Z as a father. I just never thought I would see the day. He has definitely broken the norm of most rappers. He has been tied down to “baddie” Bey for a while and now they have a beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy. I must say Jay-Z has definitely cleaned up over the years and has matured a lot, especially in his clothing choices.

4. Brad Pitt- Isn’t he just gorgeous? With the amount of children that Angelina and Brad have, they should be pulling out each other’s hair by now. But, they still continue to look very stylish on every red carpet of every event they attend to. Fathers, Brad has shown us that with every addition to the family, style must continue to elevate.

3. Will Smith- Hollywood has always been known for its regular “72-day marriages.” But, WIll Smith has proved that statistic wrong. He and Jada has been going strong for many years now and definitely in style. I love that the “style” gene has been passed down to the children. I respect this family a lot. Kudos Will!

2. David Beckham- David Beckham has finally gotten his daddy’s girl and he hasn’t let go of her since. I love seeing Beckham “swagged” out in pictures with his lovely daughter. When it seems like absent fathers has become a norm, Beckham continues to remind us that there are men out there that aren’t ashamed of being a father, especially in the public eye!

1. Kaye West- Kim gave birth just a day before Father’s Day. What a coincidence? luck? conspiracy? Whatever it is, Kanye deserves the number one spot. Kanye never ceases to amaze me with his outfit choices. He is always killing the game. Congrats Kim and Kanye. I can only imagine the outfit choices he has already planned for his bundle of joy!

A Woman of Versatility

hair post

I am a woman of versatility. I like to switch it up. For months, I have been thinking about cutting off my hair and starting over. But, I know I would enjoy it for a couple of months and then holler for my hair to grow back. Also, I wasn’t sure how the short haircut would fit me. I’ve been told I could probably do anything except going short. But, I wanted to see for myself. I wanted to try the short haircut, but still be able to rock my length. So, I looked up a few short hairstyles and fell in love with the pixie cut. I went to my hairdresser and got a customized wig, so I could switch it up whenever I wanted to. I absolutely love the cut and this has inspired me to eventually get the big chop!

OOTD: Graduation Weekend!

I am officially an alumnus of Oakwood University. Yay! I've graduated! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Pre-Law, a concentration in Political Science and a minor in Business Management.
I no longer will be living with my two Purple Lipstick besties, Rachael and Kalila. But, don't worry, Purple Lipstick will still be functioning! We ain't going nowhere! But, you will gain a deeper understanding of us individually as we embark on different paths. I will surely miss my girls and will see them from time to time. So, look out for collaborative posts of the Purple Lipstick gang when we reunite again!
Graduation went by so fast. It was one of the most important and greatest day of my life. Four years of toil and labor has finally ended. Well, although I wore a robe for the entire graduation weekend, I still "glammed" up underneath. After all, it is my graduation!

Perfect Summer Hairstyle: Ciara wears short shorts!

I'm obsessed with Ciara's new hair cut! I've been stalking her Instagram for a few months because her blonde shoulder length bob was to die for. I didn't think it was possible, but she totally out did herself! This new cut is sexy and sophisticated, it's the perfect hairstyle for summer. Maybe short haired girls do have more fun!

I Nailed It!

Every Friday night we of Purple Lipstick have a ritual of doing our nails. It may sound funny but it's probably one of our most girlish  habits lol. Whether we're trying out a random design, bright sparkles, looking for a solid neutral color or going for that dark, bloody red, we have realized that the possible combinations are basically endless.
We've learned that you don't have to go to the nail salon to achieve a "professional" look. There are a variety of nail kits for press-on nails that you can design and shape yourself. There are also stick on, or adhesive designs and patterns that go on your nails in a flash. The best this about doing your own nails is that the most basic thing can turn out to look amazing!

Just randomly doing my nails one day and this was the result

Press-on nails by Kiss: It's a great kit since it come with about 200 nails that come in different sizes. It lasts for a really long time and multiple people can use it.

Kalila's nails were shaped into a more rounded triangle after they were glued on. I used  a random beauty supply store brand NK in "Taupe Extreme." Though this polish would be considered "cheap" I love it. It's a great color and it actually last longer without chipping than some of the other well-known brands.

On Jode-Leigh is the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro in Lava Red. It claims to last up to 10 days, but from my experience, even with a top coat it lasts maybe about half of that time. Still, it's a beautiful color and I'd recommend it.

True Life: My obsession with cutting (hair...that is)

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I change my hair A LOT! I get bored very easily when it comes to my hair. Just like clothes, hair can let others know what kind of mood I'm in.

When I was younger, I kept my hair at shoulder length. Back then, I didn't care much for short hair. I
would always get split ends when my hair grew past my shoulders, so keeping it at that length was fine by me. I guess I didn't get "scissor happy" until the summer leading into my freshmen year of college. I remember watching Rihanna's music video for "Rehab" and thinking that short hair is absolutely stunning! I HAD to have it! This was the point of no return for me having hair lol

I loved the short cut  for 3-4 months but I got bored...so I decided to grow my hair out of the cut and perm. Which was probably one of the best decision I've made for my hair. In about 8 months my hair was almost at shoulder length again.

I was happy, I could finally add extensions if I wanted too! lol but once again I got bored. I went through a really painful situation and felt like I needed a change, a new look that would make me feel better! Oh how young and foolish I was! :) So once again Rihanna was my inspiration for my next hairstyle: The Bowl Cut.

This was the first time coloring my hair and I had no idea how to take care of it. So I only wore my hair straight for 3 days, I was scared my hair would break off it I kept on pressing it, so I wore it curly until my next hair style.

From the bowl cut, I became obsessed with shaving my sides. I liked that I could dress it up to make it cute but it still had an edge to it.

I kept the braids in for 2 weeks. But yes, I got bored once again! I wore my hair curly until it was long enough to add extensions.

For some reason I wanted to color my hair again. This is probably one hair choice I regret. Like I don't even like to talk or think about. I think I've mentally blocked it out and I only remember it when I see pictures lol.

That color was horrible! So to erased those rough times, I put in Loc Extensions, which I LOVED! They were just so heavy! lol

So as I mentioned earlier, I'm obsessed with shaving my sides. I told myself that I wouldn't cut my hair, but who was I kidding?! lol

I wore my hair like this for about 6 months. YAY for me keeping a hairstyle for longer than 3 weeks!

Even though I loved this style, I wanted to grow my hair out AGAIN lol. But growing my sides out with kind of frustrating, so my sister suggested that I shave my hair off. I was like "I never done that before, why not?" so that evening I let my sister shave my head. This was January 2012

Throughout the summer I continued to grow my hair out. I wore it slicked down for the most part or in a curly afro. Once again I wanted to shave my sides...lol I HAVE A PROBLEM, I KNOW! so in October of 2012, my sister shaved the sides and back. I didn't plan on changing my hair until I went to get a trim last month and left the salon with a pixie cut.  I love it!  but my sides and back are in that awkward stage of trying to grow back from the undercut/sidecut I got back in October. I've recently added extensions as a cover up.  I love short hair, it's so easy to manage and I think there's something so sexy and free about it.

Kalila
